Many people want to have more confidence, but they are daunted by common definitions of confidence. Confident people are always right, calm, poised, attractive… Confidence is framed as something you don’t have that you have to go get, like a better car or whiter teeth. There are loads of hacks and tricks to fake till you make it. But how can anyone achieve such an inhuman standard? And what does it do to your confidence to constantly fall short?
The definition of confidence is part of the problem.
Real world confidence is actually a practice rather than a commodity. You can be confident and not know. You can be confident and make a mistake. You can be confident and disappointed. In short, real confidence is much more like self-acceptance. No matter the circumstances, you are OK with you.
